No Tricks. Just Smart Moves: Halloween Home Tips for Great Falls

Pumpkins on the porch, a little chill in the air, and candy that somehow disappears before Halloween—October is almost over Great Falls!

As a REALTOR®, I know a welcoming home starts long before someone walks through the front door. Whether you’re handing out treats, preparing to sell, or thinking about buying, here are a few ways to keep the surprises fun this Halloween.

Give Your Front Porch a Little Fall Magic

You don’t need a yard full of decorations to make an entrance feel inviting. A few pumpkins, a fall wreath, and a clean front step can do the job.

If your home is for sale, keep the decorations simple. Buyers should be able to see the doorway, walk comfortably to the entrance, and notice the home’s features.

My advice? Let the house be the star. A giant inflatable can be fun, but it shouldn’t hide what you’re trying to sell.

Keep the Scares in the Decorations

Before visitors arrive, take a quick walk from the sidewalk to your front door.

  • Clear away loose cords, leaves, and decorations that could trip someone.
  • Check that your porch and walkway lights work.
  • Keep steps and handrails easy to see and reach.
  • Use battery-operated candles in pumpkins.
  • Give pets a quiet place away from the busy doorway.

And because this is Montana, check the weather before heading out. Costumes may need an extra layer!

Selling? Don’t Let Small Problems Become Big Distractions

A dripping faucet, a loose handle, or a burned-out bulb may seem minor. But several small problems together can leave buyers wondering what else needs attention.

Before a showing, focus on the basics: clean surfaces, comfortable lighting, clear walkways, and simple repairs. Skip strong fragrances and let fresh, clean rooms make the impression.

Seasonal decorations can add charm. Good upkeep helps buyers focus on the home.

Buying? Look Beyond the Pumpkin-Spice Charm

A cozy room and a pretty porch can make it easy to picture yourself moving in. Enjoy that feeling—but keep asking questions.

What is the condition of the roof? How old is the heating system? Are there signs of water damage? What costs will you have beyond the mortgage payment?

An inspection can help you understand a home’s condition. Your lender can help you review financing costs, and your REALTOR® can help you work through the details of the purchase.

The goal is to make a decision with clear information and a plan that fits your needs.

Your Next Move Doesn’t Need to Feel Spooky

Whether you’re buying your first home, selling a longtime property, or simply weighing your options, you deserve straight answers and practical guidance.

I help buyers and sellers in Great Falls and the surrounding area understand their choices and take the next step with confidence.
